Shaped by 76+ years in the business and a foundation of Italian immigrant resilience, our knives are more than tools; they’re forged in tradition.
Our legacy of knife work began in the 1950’s, when co-founder Kristina Yaklin’s grandfather, Valentino Povinelli, immigrated from Pinzolo, Italy, to Detroit, MI, to continue his trade as a knife sharpener. Valentino later started his own commercial knife-sharpening business, which has been passed down for two generations and continues under our founders.
Our edge is generational
For co-founders Travis and Kristina Yaklin, knives are more than tools; they’re tradition. Our company name nods to family roots and the deep history of knife sharpening in Pinzolo, Italy, through the skilled "moleti" (knife sharpeners) who originated in this picturesque region of northern Italy.
At age 20, Travis had already joined the family business as a knife sharpener for commercial kitchens. He has since devoted his life to his passion for food, the food industry, and, most importantly, people. Travis’ creative vision is the driving force behind Pinzolo, and it was his dream that brought professional-grade sharpening services into home kitchens. Under his leadership, Pinzolo is a company that values relationships and the customer experience.
For Kristina, Pinzolo is not just a business; it’s a family legacy. Her grandfather immigrated to America from Italy in the 1950s to sharpen knives, so she grew up surrounded by the knife business. Kristina brings a practical knowledge of all aspects of professional sharpening. A nurse by trade, she eagerly brings her unique skills and experience to the table.
